Lora Stuart Shortt, Attorney at Law

Lora Stuart Shortt is a 1990 graduate of Marshall University in Huntington, WV where she double majored in Paralegal Studies and Criminal Justice Legal Studies. Lora graduated with both an Associate of Applied Science and a Bachelor of Arts. While at Marshall University, Lora served on the Student Disciplinary Review Committee and was a member and President of the Delta Upsilon Chapter of Delta Zeta National Sorority. After working for 9 years as a paralegal for major defense firms in West Virginia, Lora decided to attend law school in Ada, Ohio at Ohio Northern University where she served as a member of the Moot Court team and the National Criminal Justice Moot Court team. While in law school, Lora served as a Legal Research Teaching Assistant for the 1st and 2nd year law students as well as Law Clerk to the Honorable Karen E. Elliott in Findlay, Ohio and as an Attorney for Western Ohio Legal Aid Society. Lora was admitted to the practice of Law in South Carolina in 2000. She is a graduate of the Claude W. Pettit College of Law at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.

Upon being admitted to the South Carolina Bar, Lora began her career as an advocate for indigent clients. Lora served as an attorney with Spartanburg Legal Aid as well as with the Spartanburg County Public Defender’s Corporation. Lora moved to the private practice of law when she joined the law firm of Williams, Hendrix, Steigner & Brink in Lexington, South Carolina. Lora focused her practiced solely on Family Law and managed over 70 domestic cases which included custody and divorce litigation, visitation, child support and adoption. She often served as a Guardian ad Litem for the Department of Social Services as well as in many private custody matters. In addition to practicing in South Carolina, Lora practiced law in Atlanta, Georgia for 4 years as a litigator for a major default servicing law firm but missed her roots in family law and returned to the Upstate in July, 2014.

Personal and Community

Lora is the mother of two children, ages 22 and 15 as well as the loving yet frustrated caregiver to two chihuahuas, Marvin and Zoey. She is a member of the Buncombe Street United Methodist Church in downtown Greenville and serves as the Secretary for the School Improvement Council for JL Mann High School in Greenville, SC. Lora enjoys playing golf with her children and is an avid SEC football fan.
